The Aqualeidh -Chippenham Folk Festival
This was written in a recent potted history of the 40 years of the Chippenham Folk Festival:
"nothing can match the unique 'aqualeidh' - a ceilidh in a swimming pool. This was started in the [mid-80s] when the festival tried to [hire] the swimming pools showers for the use of the festival campers. 'They are only hired along with the pool' Dick Stanger was told. [Derek Shaw suggested] holding a ceilidh in the swimming pool as a solution. As Julian Weaver says: 'It is a proper dance, though the speed tends to be alittle slower. You have to take part to appreciate the silliness of it. The staff are awestruck every year'"
